The Sheet Metal Workers Local 104 and Bay Area Industry Training Fund has introduced the SMQ33 Architectural Wall Panel Training, a new opportunity for Building Trades Sheet Metal students at the Livermore Training Facility, 1401 Greenville Road. The training is designed to give Building Trades Sheet Metal students a true hands-on experience, reflecting an active jobsite, as students participate in the full installation of a metal wall panel system.
Working in teams, students engage in every phase of the installation process, from layout to final panel placement, using industry-standard tools and technology. The class emphasizes real-world readiness, incorporating essential safety protocols such as Pre-Task Plans, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), scaffold safety procedures, and OSHA compliance standards.
A highlight of the course is the integration of Trimble technology, which students will learn to apply in vertical layout scenarios. Using equipment such as the Trimble Total Station, they will learn to precisely locate architectural clips and reference lines, bringing a new dimension to their skill set. By the end of the training, students walk away with not only a completed wall panel system but also valuable experience that mirrors the workflow of a real jobsite.
