Sheet Metal Workers Local 104 Apprenticeship Training Program Outreach

Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 104 industry and Sheet Metal Workers Local 104 and Bay Area Industry Training Fund were busy in 2023 with more than 200 different types of outreaches performed throughout the Bay Area. Events included information about the industry and apprenticeship program as well as hands-on activities and tours.

Outreach events participation has been a team effort with training coordinators, instructors, business representatives, business development representatives, and apprentices all providing assistance and help with speaking and information presentations, career fairs, hands-on activities, facility tours, and participation as career panelists.

Providing information about all the different facets of the union sheet metal industry and apprenticeship opportunities through outreach by Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 104 and Bay Area Industry Training Fund has always been focused on providing information for all on the opportunities and pathways into our union apprenticeship training program to gain the skills and knowledge for a lifetime career.

The different types of outreaches performed by Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 104 and Bay Area Industry Training Fund in 2023 included:

  • In-person and remote information presentations regarding the union sheet metal industry and apprenticeship opportunities
  • Participation in job and career fairs for high schools, colleges, veterans, job seekers, those impacted by the judicial system, and many community-based organizations
  • Participation in apprenticeship and trades fairs
  • Hands-on fabrication and assembly of sheet metal items for hands-on trades fairs, individual high school programs, and trades preparation programs
  • Training facility tours and hands-on demonstration/participation
  • Participation in career panels for high school students at different schools to speak on careers opportunities with other panelists

PROVIDING AN OVERVIEW OF THE UNION SHEET METAL BUILDING TRADES INDUSTRY AND APPRENTICESHIP

Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 104 and Bay Industry Training Fund participated in many different job, career, and apprenticeship trades fairs throughout the year for school districts, colleges, veterans’ programs, those impacted by the judicial system, and many community-based and job seeker organizations.

Industry-related displays of images, tools, equipment, information about the apprenticeship program as well as interaction with current Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 104 members was provided at each event.

HANDS-ON FABRICATION OF SHEET METAL TOOL TRAYS AT TRADES FAIRS AND THE TRAINING FACILITY FOR STUDENTS

Providing hands-on experiences for high school, college, and trades preparation students at career and trades fairs, schools, and our training facilities is another way that outreach was performed to bring information and awareness of the Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 104 industry and apprenticeship opportunities.

PRESENTATIONS AND TOURS OF THE FAIRFIELD TRAINING FACILITY INCLUDED EXPLANATIONS AND DEMONSTRATIONS OF VARIOUS TYPES OF TRAINING PROVIDED IN THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

Schools, trades preparation programs, and many different community-based organizations requested to visit our training facilities where they were provided information, facility tours, and hands-on demonstration/participation with great success for participants.
