Earn Your Associate Degree

College or the trades?
You don’t have to choose.

You can have both.
Apprenticeship and free college.

Sheet Metal Workers Local 104 and Bay Area Industry Training Fund has partnered with Foothill Community College to give apprentices in the program the opportunity to earn a free associate degree during their five-year apprenticeship.

The Associate in Science degree is currently available for all Sheet Metal, Service and TAB apprentices for all five JATCs attending classes in the Fairfield, Livermore, San Jose and Castroville training Facilities.

The requirements of the associate degree are satisfied by the curriculum taught in the apprenticeship with two exceptions, English and humanities. To help apprentices complete those two courses, English and humanities courses are offered for free at the JATC training facilities or online. These courses are mandatory to complete the degree.

A free associate degree is just one of the many benefits of apprenticeship.

Knowing they will earn this degree can help young people who think they must decide between a degree and a career in the trades. Apprentices who have previously completed college courses can also transfer credits to supplement their degree.
