Fairfield Training Facility Earns New TAB Lab Certification

On Dec. 3, representatives from the National Energy Management Institute (NEMI) began the process of evaluating the SMW Local 104 and Bay Area Industry Training Fund – Fairfield Training Facility for compliance with the all-new requirements to offer the Testing, Adjusting and Balancing Bureau (TABB) Technician performance exam. The exam had been on hold while an ANAB-approved test update was written. The TAB lab in the facility made various changes and updates in order to comply with these new testing requirements. NEMI staff evaluated lab components for air and hydronic testing as well as test lab documents used for certification testing.

We are pleased to report that the SMW Local 104 and Bay Area Industry Training Fund – Fairfield Training Facility met the 2024 requirements for ICB/TABB certification testing and is the first certification testing lab in the United States and Canada to receive approval to offer the new updated TABB Technician performance exam. Local judges and proctors received updated training on the evaluation and scoring for testing participants. On Dec. 6, five participants took part in the first TABB Technician performance exam offered since March 2024. Local 104 members who need to take the hands-on performance test are encouraged to contact their local JATC to register for an upcoming test session.

On site for NEMI were Lisa Davis, NEMI administrator; Cassandra Kline, ICB/TABB director of certification; Joe Pickens, NEMI program administrator; Matt O’Rourke, regional representative; and Steve Winstead, regional representative. Local representatives for the Fairfield Training center included Tim Myres, administrator; Pat Pico, training coordinator; Chris Coatsworth, instructor; Rick Graham, instructor; Ben Alva, instructor; and Scott Brehmer, judge.

The training program would like to thank all these individuals, who put in many hours to achieve this certification and offer this additional opportunity for the members of Local 104 and SMART.
